New York City knows how to celebrate New Year’s Eve like no other. Amid its endless selection of extravagant rooftop parties and over-the-top events, it may seem impossible to ring in the New Year without it costing a pretty penny. However, enjoying New Year’s Eve in NYC doesn’t necessarily require you to spend hundreds of dollars. Ahead, we’ve found 20 New Year’s Eve events that cost less than $150 (and some are even free!), from watching a dazzling display of fireworks in Prospect Park to a brewery dance party.

Manhattan

NYE Bar Crawl
From the pub crawl pros comes the New Year’s Eve Bar Crawl of 2024. The annual event kicks off at Coyote Ugly Saloon in Gramercy and continues to Bar 13 and Phoenix Bar, with more establishments in the area to be determined. Select bars will feature live DJs and affordable drink specials. The night concludes with a champagne toast at midnight and an after-party. Tickets for the bar crawl and after-party cost $24.99 for a single person and $16.99 per person if purchasing tickets for four or more people.

NYRR Midnight Run
Central Park, Manhattan
Run into 2024 with the New York Road Runners. During the group’s annual Midnight Run in Central Park, runners line up at 11:59 p.m. and when the clock strikes midnight, head off into the park for a 4-mile race under a dazzling fireworks display that lights up the night sky. Participants will take home a nifty New Balance long-sleeve tech t-shirt. Make sure you register for the race before New Year’s. Entry fees range from $55 to $70. Learn more here.

NYE at the Comedy Cellar
130 West 3rd Street, West Village

Start the New Year on a happy note at New York City’s iconic Comedy Cellar. While the MacDougal Street club is already sold out, check out shows at its two other locations: The Fat Black Pussycat and The Village Underground. A 10:30 p.m. show includes ringing in midnight with comics seen on “The Tonight Show,” “The Conan O’Brien Show,” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” Make sure you get your spot before the show is sold out! La Pizza & La Pasta at Eataly NYC Downtown

7 Cornelia Street, West Village

The West Village’s Donna, one of the only worker-owned bars in NYC, is offering a special prix fixe menu on New Year’s Eve. The $150 dinner for two includes two appetizers, entrees, and desserts, as well as two cocktails and a prosecco toast.

The special cocktail menu includes the 5th Year Senior (gin, ginger, lemon, elderflower, cognac, and cucumber tonic), and the Brancolada, Donna’s unique twist on a piña colada. The food menu includes dishes with a pan-Latin influence, featuring braised pork shoulder with roasted cabbage and tahini, roasted whole fish with rice and beans, and guacamole and pico de gallo with corn chips. Wagamama
Wagamama is hosting New Year’s Eve celebrations at its Midtown and Nomad locations, featuring a live DJ, a sparkling toast, and a special menu for $35 per person. The fast-casual restaurant, known for its Japanese cuisine, will also be serving noodles until 12:30 a.m. in addition to their special menu. Soar into the New Year at RiseNY, a state-of-the-art flying theater in Midtown that takes riders on a virtual aerial tour of NYC. The three-part journey starts with a film narrated by Jeff Goldblum, taking guests through the recreation of the city’s first subway station. The experience is accompanied by a series of exhibit galleries that feature different items, people, and events that have shaped the history of the city, including Ringo Starr’s drumhead from The Beatles 1964 tour and Madonna’s hand-painted Keith Haring jacket. NYE Casino Night at The Standard Biergarten

The Standard Hotel’s beer garden is turning into a 1920s-era casino for New Year’s Eve, inviting guests to test their luck playing slot machines, roulette, craps, poker, and blackjack. The top five chip leaders at the end of the night will receive prizes. General admission tickets cost $90 and include $1,000 in poker chips (the chips don’t hold cash value) and access to a holiday buffet and open bar from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets can be booked here.

The hotel is hosting another NYE soiree in The Partridge. Comedian Ali Weiss will celebrate the New Year by looking back at the biggest pop culture moments of 2023. There will even be trivia, with the chance for guests to win prizes. Tickets cost $30 and include a welcome drink and champagne toast. Note there’s a $70 per person minimum spend in addition to admission.

Fishbowl at Dream Hotel
210 West 55th Street, Midtown

Fishbowl is a new bar, lounge, and game room in Midtown where guests are greeted by a 5,000-gallon fish tank containing exotic saltwater fish. The space also features an arcade, lounge, two mini-bowling lanes, skeeball machines, a photo booth, and a state-of-the-art sound system. Every New Year’s Eve, the skies above New York Harbor and the Statue of Liberty are filled with flashes of fireworks as the New Year is ushered in. Those interested in seeing the stunning fireworks show are encouraged to travel to the Lower Manhattan and South Brooklyn waterfront for the best views. For an even better vantage point, many of the city’s boat tour companies offer a cruise through New York Harbor while the fireworks are set off overhead, including Circle Line and Skyline Cruises, but these options start at $270 per person.

TIMES’ UP! NYE Bike Ride
Cycle your way into the New Year on the annual TIMES’ UP! NYE bike ride. The free event has four meetup locations: 9:15 p.m. at Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn, 10 p.m. at the Brooklyn entrance to the Williamsburg Bridge, 10:15 p.m. at Washington Square Park in Manhattan, and 10:30 p.m. at Madison Square Park at 23rd and Broadway. NYE with Vinyl Nights

Boogie into the new year at Boerum Hill’s Ace Hotel Brooklyn. Vinyl Nights is inviting New Yorkers to one final dance party before 2024, featuring the music that helped shape NYC club culture. Hosted by Rebecca Lynn, the night will feature DJ Misbehaviour, Money Mike, and Raw Q, who will be spinning a variety of Disco, Funk, Soul, House Boogie, Latin, 80s & 90s Hip-hop, and more, all on vinyl. The event is free and open to all on a first-come, first-served basis.

Royal Palms Brooklyn’s Flamingo Formal

Royal Palms Shuffleboard, which is one of the only places in NYC to play the laid-back sport, is inviting New Yorkers to come to celebrate 2024. Guests are encouraged to show up in their best pink, white, and/or black outfits and strap on their dancing shoes. Wristbands cost $124 per person and include guaranteed general admission for one guest, unlimited beer, wine, well liquors & signature cocktails from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., and an Italian panino and side from Centro Percento. Those attending the event should arrive as early as possible, as once the venue reaches capacity, it will have to close the doors.

Strong Rope Brewery
185 Van Dyke Street, Red Hook

Red Hook’s Strong Rope Brewery is hosting a free New Year’s Eve celebration with trivia, delicious BBQ, a live DJ, and more. Prepare to welcome the New Year in style, with mouthwatering cuisine courtesy of Smokin’ Jerks BBQ from 6 p.m. until sold out, trivia from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., music from Red Hook-local DJ Radio Ramsés from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., and a midnight toast. The bar will also have the Times Square Ball Drop streaming for those who want to watch, and patrons will have a spectacular view of fireworks as they set off above the Statue of Liberty at midnight.

Threes Brewing Co.
333 Douglas Street, Gowanus

Ring in the New Year at Threes Brewing in Gowanus. The brewery is inviting guests to start 2024 off with tasty drinks, food, dancing, and a balloon drop. The night also includes a complimentary beer toast at midnight. Doors open at 9 p.m. Admission is free.

Queens’ laid-back Rockaway Hotel and Spa is inviting guests to celebrate the New Year by the ocean. The seaside establishment is hosting a cocktail-style celebration with a premium open bar, live music, and dancing all night long on their 6,000-square-foot indoor and outdoor Rooftop, with sweeping views of Jamaica Bay, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Manhattan skyline in the distance.
