New York City is selling limited batches of its four best-selling street signs from its monthly “sign drops,” giving New Yorkers a chance to bring a piece of the city home for the holidays. Department of Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez announced that starting Tuesday, the agency will release four of its most popular street signs, the first on Tuesday, followed by drops on Wednesday, November 26, November 28, and December 1. Two signs released so far—“Leaving Brooklyn Fuhgeddaboutit” and “Gay Street”—are already sold out, while “Welcome to Queens” and “Cornelia Street” will be available on CityStore on November 28 and December 1, respectively.

The DOT began its monthly sign drops in June 2024, allowing customers to purchase and hang an authentic piece of the city on their walls. The signs are produced at DOT’s Sign Shop in Maspeth, Queens, which manufactures over 70,000 signs annually.

A team of 32 employees handcrafts a variety of street, highway, directional, and parking signs. Currently, there are over two million NYC DOT signs in use across NYC’s 6,000 miles of streets, as 6sqft previously reported.

Just in time for the holidays, the sign drops give you a chance to make a special New Yorker in your life (including yourself) very happy. This release is extremely limited, with only 25 signs available online for $100 each, and a limit of one per customer. Interested buyers should be ready at 10 a.m. sharp on drop days.

“Here’s your sign to begin your holiday shopping,” Rodriguez said. “As we approach Black Friday and Cyber Monday, we are re-releasing small batches of our fastest-selling signs. These fan favorites will sell out quickly, so act fast while remembering to drive slowly.”

The drop on Friday, November 28, “Welcome to Queens: ‘The World’s Borough,’” was first released in July 2025, paying tribute to one of the 12 original counties of the Province of New York in 1683 and now the nation’s most diverse county.

“Cornelia Street” will drop on Monday, December 1. First released in August 2024, the sign celebrates the street’s place in pop culture; superstar Taylor Swift once rented a home on the Greenwich Village street and name-dropped in her 2019 song “Cornelia Street.”

This rerelease marks the third time the Cornelia Street signs have been sold. In December 2024, the DOT offered another batch of authentic signs to coincide with the pop star’s birthday.

All “sign drops” are sold through CityStore, the city’s official shop, with all proceeds going to the city’s general fund.

“These top-selling signs resonate because they capture the neighborhoods, histories, and identities that make New York unlike anywhere else,” Department of Citywide Administrative Services Commissioner Louis A. Molina said. “We’re excited to offer this limited holiday re-release so New Yorkers can claim a piece of the city they love.”
