A devastating fire in the Bronx on Monday afternoon has left one child dead and two others in critical condition, and several others injured, police sources said.

A devastating fire in the Bronx on Monday afternoon has left one child dead and two others in critical condition, and several others injured, police sources said.

According to the FDNY, the blaze erupted just after 3:40 p.m. on May 11 at 2609 Bainbridge Ave. in Fordham. The fire erupted from the second floor. 

When firefighters arrived, they said they found three young children seriously injured. They were rushed to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where they were listed in critical condition. 

Later, police sources said, hospital staff pronounced one of the victims, a one-year-old boy, dead.

At least five other people were also injured and rushed to the hospital. They are expected to survive.

The fire was placed under control at around 4:40 p.m. Monday. The cause of the fire is not yet known, sources said.

The FDNY is expected to deliver updates shortly.
