Midfielder Ronald Donkor and Red Bull New York have agreed to a new, three-and-a-half-year MLS contract, which will begin on Jan. 1, 2027, amNewYork has learned.
The deal will run through the 2029-30 season with an option for the 2030-31 campaign.
The 21-year-old Ghanaian talent has shown flashes of becoming a dynamic, speedy playmaker within Red Bull’s ranks. In 14 appearances this season, he has posted five goal contributions, including four assists. He scored his first-ever MLS goal on April 22 against DC United.
As he continues trending upward, Donkor has already set single-season career highs in minutes played (1,183), games started (14), and assists — and the MLS season has not even hit its halfway point.
It is a testament to the impact he has had in such a short amount of time. Donor was an afterthought heading into the 2026 MLS season when examining Red Bull’s midfield situation. Yet, he has carved his niche on the right side of the three-man group alongside 17-year-old Adri Mehmeti and captain Emil Forsberg.
“Ronnie has been an integral part of our team this season, and he has a very bright future ahead of him,” head coach Michael Bradley said of Donkor.
Bradley’s willingness to give his young talents a chance paid off during the first portion of the campaign. Donkor and Mehmeti are just two of the Baby Bulls that has helped New York climb back up into fifth place in the Eastern Conference at the World Cup break. Julian Hall, the 18-year-old star striker, has led the way with nine MLS goals in 15 appearances.
