A 58-year-old Bronx man was killed when an e-scooter driver crashed into him as he attempted to cross a one-way residential street on Staten Island on Saturday.

Police announced on Monday that Jose Luis Gomez-Guallazaca, of the Concourse Village area of the South Bronx, was crossing Targee Street on Staten Island’s North Shore at around 7:40 p.m. on May 17 when he was struck by a 25-year-old man operating a stand-up electric scooter.

Officers from the 120th Precinct rushed to the scene upon receiving a 911 call about the collision.

An initial investigation determined that upon impact, the driver was violently ejected off the scooter while Gomez-Guallazaca sustained severe trauma throughout his body.

Paramedics, who also arrived at the scene, rushed both the driver and the pedestrian to nearby Richmond University Medical Center, where Gomez-Guallazca was pronounced dead.

The driver is listed in stable condition, law enforcement sources said.

Police could not confirm the speed or direction of the e-scooter at the time of the collision on the one-way street.

There have been no arrests so far, and the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad is continuing its investigation.
